Systems
Engineer/DBA
4/2005 - 2/2007 IRM Corporation, Dallas, TX
-
Designed data model and data access layer for complete rewrite
of IRM's flagship BI product, Sales Discovery System (SDS). The
existing application uses a proprietary data store which is
reaching its limits in terms of the amount of data it can
process, so the database was replaced by SQL Server Express on
the desktop with a SQL Server 2005 server component.
-
Developed the flat file loader component of the new version of
SDS. This tool imports flat files from the network into a local
database, validates and transforms the data into the optimized
format required for the SDS viewer, then copies the data to a
central database server.
-
Designed job dispatch system to manage SDS loader executions.
This system provides a central front end for several loader
processes distributed over multiple machines simultaneously,
tracks statistics on job execution, and handles notification
when a job succeeds or fails.
-
Designed import/export system for our web-based products. The
new data model as well as the legacy data model are both very
complex, and it was necessary to develop a flexible system for
exporting/importing to/from customers' databases.
-
Managed heterogeneous database server environment . Oracle
8.1.7, 9.0.1, 9.2.0, and 10.1.0 on Solaris, Windows, and Linux
-
Utilized Oracle 10g Enterprise Manager to allow management and
other team members to monitor database availability and
performance
-
Managed several SQL Server 2000 and 2005 database servers
-
Optimized database performance of ASP.NET web project
-
Implemented build process for ASP.NET web project using NAnt;
compiled and deployed development, staging, and production
websites as well as database scripts
-
Migrated existing Visual Source Safe repository to Subversion;
trained team in its usage
